Robinson Preserve Paddle Trip April 2024
Robinson Preserve Paddle Trip April 2024, Great weather and a great group for a day on the water. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was windy coming across the Skyway bridge but it wasn’t even noticeable when paddling especially out on the open area of the bay where it could be a problem. It was an incoming tide as we paddled out of the preserve out to the Bay, taking some effort to paddle against. But once past that area it was easy paddling. The usual lunch spot was good. In past trips we have come across pilled up sea weed or an abandoned boat that wash ashore. But this trip was clear. The burrito lunch hit the spot and was the energy need to make the rest of the trip. After lunch we paddled along the mangrove shoreline to Perico Bayou, making our way to the Mangrove tunnel. The tide was high but not above average. It was high enough to just cover the oyster bar in the bayou. And not so high as to make it so tight getting through the mangrove tunnel. There was only one spot that added a bit of a challenge to the adventure. After making it through the Tunnel, we paddle back up through the inside of Robinson Preserve. Back to the observation tower. About half the group made the climb to the top of the tower, for the awesome views of the bay and the skyway bridge. After the tower we made our way back to the takeout. We saw Night Heron, Great Blue Heron, Egret, and Pelican. Thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying the day with us. See you next month for Weldon Island.
