Hillsborough River Paddling Trip Aug 2023.

Hillsborough River Paddling Trip Aug 2023, A great day for a paddle on the river.  We normally paddle from Trout creek to Morris Bridge Park but there where trees down on this section so we started our paddle at Morris Bridge Park and paddled up to Sargent Park. This was a very nice section of the river to paddle with lots of shade which we needed on a hot August day. The large Bald Cypress trees with there wide buttress trunks and knees in the forest made for a magical appearance. The river hight was up but and the flow make for a more challenging trip up river. We made it to the take out just in time for a nice rain storm while we had lunch, cooling the air for the ride back down river. There were some small gators and we saw Limpkin, Ibis, and Heron on the river. A few white lilies grew right at the waters edge, where pretty but couldn’t seem to get the camera out in time to get a picture.    Kenny was able to point out and tell every body about Thonosassa, a seminole-creek word meaning “flint is there” which is a hill of discarded flint.  Native American’s Indians would sort through pieces of flint and keep the good stuff and dump the undesirable one’s here. It’s very easy to paddle right by and never even notice the hill.  It was a nice day on the water. It might have been a really hot day but the cool river and the shade made the day very comfortable and the river was gorgeous.  Thank to everyone for coming out and paddling with us, see you next month for Anclote River in September.
