A 12 volt power port is a flush-mount outlet that sits in your deck or gunwale so you can plug an accessory in where you actually use it, instead of running a wire back to the battery every time.

The 12 Volt Power Port Lead Length

This is the 12 foot version — 144 inches of pre-wired cable with an SAE connector on the end. Yak Power makes the same port with 4 ft and 8 ft leads.

Twelve feet is the one you want for the far ends of the boat. On a 12 or 13 foot fishing kayak, getting from a battery amidships out to a bow light with the cable routed sensibly around obstructions eats more length than people estimate. Buying short and splicing an extension defeats the point of a solder-free system.

Fitting a 12 Volt Power Port

Pick a spot you can reach while seated and where the cap will not be standing in a puddle. Under a gunwale lip is better than flat on an open deck. Bed the flange in marine sealant and use a bonded sealing washer under each screw.

Plug and Play, No Soldering

Every part of the Yak Power line uses standard SAE two-pin connectors — the same snap-together plug used on battery tenders. Nothing gets cut, stripped, crimped or soldered. You plug the pieces together in the order they go, and the system works.

That is the whole reason this line exists. Wiring a kayak used to mean butt connectors, heat shrink and a prayer. This is a system a customer with no electrical experience can install in an afternoon and trust in salt water.

What Plugs Into It

Anything terminated with an SAE plug — lights, aerators, phone chargers, a fish finder. Yak Power sells the plugs separately so you can put one on gear that came with bare wires, which is the usual way an existing accessory gets adopted into the system.
