The Anclote River Paddling trip Sept 2023
The Anclote River Paddling trip Sept 2023. It was a fine day to be on the water. Still warm but it’s feeling better than a month ago. We paddle through Spring Bayou, showing the group where they through the cross in the epiphany Celebration in January. Then we paddled out around to the sponge docks. The sponge docks are a very busy commercial area, with fishing boats, shrimp boats, tour boats, tug boats, barges and private boats tied up to the docks. There is also an assortment of boats in different levels of repair or should I say disrepair, slowly rotting away. The Sponge docks seam to be cleaned up from the storm. I notice one area where the boards where broken on the dock but other than that could see no damage from the water. Paddling past the sponge docks we want under the Bridge at alt 19 and into the marsh and mangrove area of the river. The river loops back and forth through this area. We then paddle under the pedestrian bridge, if you listen while paddling under the bridge you can hear the bats that live in the gaps in the concrete. Just after the pedestrian bridge we stop for lunch. After lunch we paddled on through the marsh to the US19 bridge. Usually we stop and turn around here but today, we paddled on a bit further. We seemed to have the current and wind with us on the way back, and flowed back easily. Another great day to be on the water paddling. And big thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying the day with us.
see you next month for Ft Desoto in October.
