Anclote River Paddle Trip April 2022

With the changes in the weather lately we managed to get a good day of paddling in without the winds or a rain trying to stop us. The Anclote River is a mix of history, commercial boats, tourist town, residential, and mangrove marshes. The trip starts with a quick run through Spring Bayou the location of the cross through for the annual Epiphany celebration. Then we paddle past the historic sponge docks. And tourist area where tourist recreation sponge boats and real commercial fishing boats intermingle. Lots of pelicans hang near the commercial fishing boats and docks hoping for discarded fish. Crossing under the bridge that is alt 19, you can see the remains of an original concrete bridge that has crumbled away. Once past the bridge you are in a more natural setting with less building and more mangroves. The river winds its way through the mangroves. We stop for lunch at a park on the north side of the river. Kim’s pasta salad gave us the energy to go on a bit farther to paddle under US19. A relaxing paddle back to the put in for the end of a wonderful day on the water. Thanks to everyone for coming out and sharing the day with us.
