Where a Twist-Lock Suction Cup Mount Sticks
This matters more than anything else on the page. A suction cup needs a smooth, non-porous, clean surface. Glass and polished plastic are ideal.
A textured deck, a matte rotomoulded hull, or anything with a moulded non-skid pattern will not hold a suction cup reliably. Air leaks past the texture and the cup lets go, usually at the worst moment. RAM sells an adhesive disk you can apply to a rough surface to give the cup something to grip — worth asking about if your boat's deck is textured.
For a fishing kayak, the usual honest answer is that a track base is the right mount and this one is for the car, the cooler lid, or a glass surface.
What Comes With This Twist-Lock Suction Cup Mount
The kit includes the 3.3" twist-lock cup, a double socket arm, and a custom GoPro adapter that replaces the camera's factory bracket rather than clamping around it. That gives a lower, more rigid connection than a standard GoPro mount.
It works with GoPro Hero and Session, Garmin VIRB, SJCAM and most cameras using the GoPro two-tab interface.
Use It Somewhere It Can Fall Safely
Whatever the marketing says about any suction mount, treat it as temporary. Tether the camera. A camera on a suction cup over open water is a camera you may be buying again.
RAM Ball Sizes, Because Mixing Them Is the Usual Mistake
RAM sizes its balls by letter and the components only connect within a size. B is 1", the everyday size for phones, cameras and small fish finders. C is 1.5", for heavier or longer arms. A is 5/8" and D is 2.25".
A B-size ball will rattle loose in a C socket, and a C ball will not enter a B socket at all. Before you buy an arm or a base, check what size the other end of your setup is — or bring it in and we will match it in ten seconds.
