Polypro Webbing 3/4"
The narrower of our two floating webbings. 3/4 polypro webbing is the size for gear straps rather than cargo straps — lighter, more flexible, and easier to feed through small hardware.
When 3/4 Polypro Webbing Is the Right Width
Pack sternum and compression straps. Dry bag closures. Small gear lashings. Replacing a strap on a chair, a cooler, a soft cooler bag or a cart. Anywhere a 1" strap would be overkill and would not fit the existing buckle anyway.
The deciding factor is almost always the hardware you are matching. Measure the buckle or the slide, not the old strap — webbing narrows slightly with age and wear, and you will end up a size down if you measure that.
Why 3/4 Polypro Webbing on a Boat
It floats, which is a genuine advantage when a strap goes over the side. It does not absorb water, so it dries fast and does not stay cold and heavy all day. It resists rot and mildew, which matters for anything that gets stuffed away damp. And it stretches very little, so a strap holds where you set it.
The trade is ultraviolet resistance. 3/4 polypro webbing does not love Florida sun as much as nylon does, so anything living permanently outdoors should be checked each season and replaced when it goes chalky and stiff.
Finishing an End Properly
Cut it and immediately melt the end with a lighter, then press it flat with the back of a knife while it is still soft. An unsealed end frays in days and then jams in every buckle it meets. If the strap needs a loop, a bar-tack or a few rows of stitching beats a knot — knots in webbing are bulky and they slip.
