The Hurricane Prima 125 Sport is a recreational kayak with an enormous cockpit — 55 inches by 24 — and at 43 pounds it is one of the lightest twelve-footers you will lift. It is the boat we hand people who want easy.

What "Sport" Actually Means

Not a performance package. Sport is the oversized cockpit, and that is the whole point of the boat: you step in rather than climb in, you get out without a routine, and there is room in front of you for a small child or a dog. There is no non-Sport Prima — it is the model name, not an upgrade.

And the Seat Is Standard

The removable frame seat, which Hurricane used to market as the "1st Class Seat", comes with every Prima. It slides fore and aft, lifts out entirely — which takes about three pounds off the boat — and doubles as a beach chair when you stop.

Trylon Construction

Hurricane builds in Trylon: a solid-colour ABS sheet with an acrylic cap, heated and vacuum-formed over a mould. Hurricane puts the weight saving at 15 to 25 percent against a comparable rotomolded boat, with better UV resistance and no oil-canning. Their own honest caveat is that ABS is not as impact-resistant as polyethylene — this is a flat-water boat, not one for bouncing off rocks.
