Thule SquareBar Evo is the plain, strong, sensible bar — coated steel, sold as a pair, and rated to exactly the same 220 lb as the aluminium wing bars that cost a great deal more.

Worth knowing before anyone upsells you: SquareBar Evo, WingBar Evo and ProBar Evo all carry a 220 lb maximum load. The choice between them is not about strength. WingBar buys you quiet and a little less drag. SquareBar buys you a bar you do not mind scuffing.

When a Square Bar Is Still the Right Answer

Three cases, and they cover most paddlers. If the load is a boat, a ladder or lumber — abrasive, dirty, occasionally dropped — you would rather mark a steel bar than a $280 aluminium one. If you already own U-bolt kayak saddles, J-cradles or a stacker, they clamp around a square section perfectly and do not need a T-track at all. And if most of your driving is local, you will never hear the difference the wing profile pays for.

Bring your car by our Clearwater shop and we will measure the roof and tell you which length you actually want — too long looks silly and too short will not clear your carriers.
