Sonata MK
The Old Town Sonata kayak is the boat we point people to when the plan is less about paddling and more about a good afternoon on the water. It's a 10' 6" sit-on-top with a Minn Kota electric motor built into the hull. A forward-and-reverse throttle sits beside the seat, and you steer with your feet.
A Motorized Sit-on-Top Built for Fun
At 37 inches wide it's a steady, roomy platform with 638 lbs of total capacity, enough for a cooler, a dog or a load of fishing gear. The Element seat is adjustable and breathable, and it comes out when you're done for the day. There are hatches at the bow and center, and a rudder comes standard.
What Sets the Old Town Sonata Kayak Apart
Four Bluetooth marine speakers and LED cockpit lighting are built in, which is why Old Town files it under recreation rather than fishing. It still comes with rod holders and accessory tracks, plus a universal transducer mount if you want to add a fish finder.
Good to know before you buy: it runs on a 12V Group 27 deep-cycle marine battery, which is not included, and navigation lights are sold separately. The assembled boat weighs 123 lbs, so plan on a cart or a trailer. The hull is rotomolded in Maine and carries Old Town's limited lifetime hull warranty.
