Deck Plate Screw Out
A screw out deck plate threads closed like a jar lid. It is the traditional access port, and the threads give a long, progressive seal that many people prefer to a quarter-turn.
Screw Out Deck Plate or Quarter-Turn
The screw-out seals by squeezing a large thread face together as you tighten, so it tolerates a slightly imperfect rim better. The trade is speed β you are turning several times rather than a quarter turn, and you can cross-thread it if you are careless or cold.
The other real difference is storage. Our screw-out plates have no internal collar, so they will not take a deck plate bag. If you want a hanging dry pocket under the opening, buy the quarter-turn with the internal collar instead. If you only want access and inspection, this is the cheaper and simpler answer.
Screw Out Deck Plate Sizes and Cut-Out
β’ Opening: 5-7/16"
β’ Outside diameter: 6-3/4"
β’ Deck cut-out: 5-1/2"
β’ Depth: 6-1/8"
β’ #8 flat-head fasteners, sold separately
Sea-Lect makes this family in white and black and in three sizes, so if 5-1/2" is not your cut-out, bring the measurement in and we will order the size that is.
Fitting and Sealing
Cut the 5-1/2" hole with a fine-toothed jigsaw blade, cutting slowly β polyethylene melts and welds itself back together behind a fast blade. Dry-fit the plate, mark and drill the screw holes, then bed the flange in marine sealant.
Use bonded sealing washers under the screw heads. Every hole you drill in a deck is a path for water, and a bonded washer is a few cents against a wet hull.
