So if you have been hunting a cover for a Slayer 12 or an Ultimate FX 13 and only finding parts labelled for the Slayer 13, this is the part. We would rather tell you than have you keep looking.

Why a Slayer Bow Hatch Cover Fails

Sun and flexing. The cover sits on the bow in full light, and it gets levered on and off every time the boat is loaded. Over several seasons the material hardens, and then a normal removal cracks a tab or splits an edge.

Once it stops sealing, water gets into the forward compartment. That is not immediately dangerous on a sit-on-top, but a bow full of water changes how the boat handles — it goes heavy, the bow digs in, and turning gets sluggish. It also soaks anything you stored up there.

Getting a Good Seal

Clean the rim and the sealing surface before fitting. Grit in that groove is the usual reason a new cover still seeps.

On a cold morning the material is stiff — warm it in your hands or in the sun before forcing it on, which is when tabs break.
