Heron 11 XT Old Town Kayak
The Old Town Heron 11XT is a first kayak that happens to fish. Eleven feet, 41 pounds, stable and forgiving, and with two flush-mount rod holders moulded in as standard — which is what the XT adds over a plain Heron.
Light Enough to Actually Use
Forty-one pounds is the number that matters here. A boat you can carry to the water by yourself and lift onto a car without a routine is a boat that gets paddled on a whim, and that is worth more than any feature on a spec sheet.
Rotomolded, and What That Buys You
This is a rotomolded polyethylene boat: plastic powder melted and spun inside a heated mould. It is heavier than the thermoformed Eddyline and Hurricane boats we also sell, and not as stiff — but it takes abuse that would crack them. Drag it up a concrete ramp, bump it off an oyster bar, drop it off the roof rack, and it dents rather than breaks. In Florida sun it wants a cover or some shade, because polyethylene is what UV goes after first.
