Tagalong Wheel

A wheel that lives on the boat. A tagalong wheel kit bolts to the stern so you lift the bow and tow, instead of carrying the whole kayak or fetching a cart.

A Tagalong Wheel Kit Is Not a Cart

Worth being clear, because it is often confused with one. A cart is a separate trolley you put under the boat and then have to store or leave at the launch.

A tagalong wheel is attached to the hull permanently. Pick up the bow handle, walk, and the stern rolls. There is nothing to carry back, nothing to leave behind, and nothing to forget in the garage.

The trade is that it is one wheel carrying one end, so it suits lighter boats and shorter distances, and it does not float the whole hull over soft sand the way a two-wheeled cart does.

Which Boats Take a Tagalong Wheel Kit

It is standard equipment on the Native Coupe, Deuce Coupe and Versa Board, and it is listed for the Falcon 11.

On those hulls it bolts to existing points. On anything else, ask us first — a stern wheel puts a real load into the hull at one spot, and it needs to go somewhere engineered for it.

What Is In the Tagalong Wheel Kit

The wheel and stainless hardware. Stainless matters here: this fitting lives at the stern, closest to the water, and gets dunked on every launch and landing.

Rinse it with fresh water afterwards like the rest of the boat. The bearing and the fasteners are what go first.

A Practical Note

Check the bolts at the start of each season. A wheel taking the weight of a loaded boat, over and over, on a plastic hull, will work fasteners loose eventually — and the time you notice is the time it lets go in a car park.
