The Thule WaterSlide is a mat you throw over the back of the vehicle before you load. Rest the bow on it, slide the boat up, and neither the hull nor your paintwork takes the damage that loading a long kayak alone usually costs.
Why It Stays Put
The top surface is smooth so the boat slides; the underside is non-skid and two bar straps hold the mat to the rear crossbar, so it does not travel up the roof with the kayak.
