Deck Fitting single loop

The small loop your deck rigging passes through. A single loop deck fitting is the most common piece of hardware on any kayak deck, and it is usually the first thing to break or pull out.

What It Does

It gives deck line and bungee a fixed point to run through so the rigging stays where the designer put it instead of sliding along the hull. Every paddle park, every bow and stern rigging run, every hatch cover retainer passes through several of them.

Because it takes a single screw, there is no screw spacing to match — which makes it far easier to replace than a two-hole fitting. You are matching one hole, and if the old hole is worn you can often shift the fitting slightly and use fresh plastic.

Size and Fastener

• Roughly 1-1/4" long and 1/2" high

• One mounting hole

• Takes a #10 fastener

On a rotomoulded hull the right fastener is usually a #10 machine screw through a well nut — a rubber-bodied insert that grips from inside, seals the hole, and lets the fitting come off again later. A self-tapping screw straight into polyethylene works, but it loosens over time as the plastic creeps.

Fitting a Single Loop Deck Fitting

Bed it in marine sealant. Every hole in a deck is a leak until you seal it, and a fitting that takes a sustained pull from deck rigging will work water down the thread if you do not.

If the fitting pulled out and took a chunk of plastic with it, do not just put a bigger screw in the same hole. Move over, or back it with a fender washer inside the hull to spread the load — we stock those alongside these.
