Primus Classic Trail Stove
The Primus Classic Trail is about as simple as a backpacking stove gets: a burner that screws onto a gas canister, with pot supports that fold in.
Why a Screw-On Backpacking Stove
There is no hose, no pump, no priming and nothing to prime it with. You screw it on, turn the valve, light it. That is the whole operation, and it is why this style of backpacking stove is what most people should start with.
The trade is that the stove sits on top of the canister, so the whole thing is tall and a little tippy with a big pot. Use a wide flat rock or the lid of a bin under the canister on soft ground.
Packing
Folded, it disappears into a mug with the canister. For kayak camping that matters more than grams — hatch space is the constraint, not weight.
Fuel and a Florida Caution
It takes screw-thread isobutane-propane canisters — the standard threaded type, not the puncture-type cartridges.
Canister stoves lose output in cold. In Florida that is almost never your problem; wind is. A five-knot breeze will steal more heat than any temperature we get. Cook in the lee of something, or the fuel you brought for three days will last two.
Specification Note
We have not confirmed the published output figure for this backpacking stove off the box, so we are not printing one. Ask us and we will read it to you rather than repeat a number from the internet.
Never run it inside a tent or vestibule.
