This nylon cleat 3 inch is a classic open-base horn cleat: something solid to tie a bow line, anchor line or tow line to. Nylon means no corrosion and nothing to scratch your boat.
What Open Base Means
The base is open rather than solid, so a line can be led underneath and the cleat sheds water and sand instead of collecting it. It also means you can see the fasteners, which is how you notice a loose one before it lets go.
