Wing Nut Replace Minn Kota
The propeller wingnut for a motorised Old Town. A Minn Kota wingnut kit contains two wingnuts and two stainless lock washers.
The Minn Kota Wingnut Kit Is Not the PDL Kit
Read this before you buy, because the two kits are almost identical to look at and are stocked side by side.
The Minn Kota motor shaft and the PDL pedal-drive shaft take different wingnuts. They are not interchangeable.
This kit is for the motorised boats — Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota and Sportsman AutoPilot. If your boat is a pedal-drive PDL or ePDL+, you want the other kit.
Bring the old wingnut in if you are not sure. It takes ten seconds to compare and it saves a wasted trip.
Why a Minn Kota Wingnut Kit Is a Consumable
You take it off to change or clear a propeller, and clearing a prop is something you do on the water, leaning over the side, with wet hands. Wingnuts go overboard.
They also seize. Stainless threads in salt water gall over time, and a rounded-off wingnut on a shaft is a genuinely annoying problem to solve at a ramp. Use anti-seize when you refit, and replace the nut at the first sign it is binding.
Check the Prop While You Are There
If you have the wingnut off, look at the propeller. Line wrapped behind it is the commonest cause of a motor running hot and pushing less, and it chews the seal area while it is there.
Thirty seconds of checking saves a far more expensive repair.
