Quick Release Bracket MKA21

A MKA-21 quick release bracket mounts between the boat and a Minn Kota bow-mount motor so the whole motor lifts off without tools.

Why an MKA-21 Quick Release Bracket

A trolling motor is the most valuable and most stealable thing on a small boat, and it is also 40 lb of weight you do not want in the car when you are not fishing.

A quick release means the motor comes off at the ramp in seconds and travels inside, and the boat stores without it. It also makes servicing far easier, and it lets one motor move between boats.

MKA-21 Quick Release Fitment — Read Before Buying

Minn Kota lists the MKA-21 for Ulterra, Terrova, PowerDrive, PowerDrive V2, Pontoon PowerDrive and Deckhand 40. It is not for shafts of 72" or longer, or for 112 lb thrust motors — those need the larger MKA-53.

An important caution: for the saltwater RT / Riptide motors, Minn Kota specifies the RTA-17 bracket rather than the MKA-21. If you are buying this to go with a Riptide Kayak Terrova, stop and talk to us first. We would rather sort the right bracket out at the counter than have you fit the wrong one to an expensive motor.

We are flagging this rather than quietly selling you the part, because the two brackets look similar and the consequences of getting it wrong are not cosmetic.

Mounting

Whatever bracket you end up with, the mounting surface matters more than the bracket. A bow-mount motor applies serious leverage, and it needs to bolt to something structural with backing plates — not to a thin deck panel.
