Seam Grip is a urethane tent seam sealer from Gear Aid — the brand that used to be McNett, same product, same tube.

Where a Tent Seam Sealer Goes

Almost never through the fabric. They leak at the seams, because a seam is a line of needle holes, and a factory tape over those holes is the first thing to fail after a few seasons in the sun.

A tent seam sealer goes on the inside of the fly along the stitch line and bridges those holes with a flexible film that moves with the fabric.

The One Thing That Will Waste Your Money

Seam Grip will not bond to silnylon. Silicone-impregnated nylon sheds urethane the way a waxed car sheds water — it will bead up, half cure and peel off in a sheet.

If your fly is silnylon you need Seam Grip SIL, which is a different product. If it is polyurethane-coated nylon or polyester, which most tents are, this is the right tube.

Check the tent's own spec before you buy. We will check it with you if you bring the tent in.

How to Use a Tent Seam Sealer

Clean and dry the seam first. Brush a thin bead along the stitch line on the coated side, and thin is the operative word — a thick bead stays tacky in the middle for days.

Give it overnight at room temperature before you pack the tent. Prop the fly open so the seam is not touching itself while it cures.

Also Good For

Drybag seams, tent floor pinholes, and the worn edge of a pack where webbing meets fabric.
