A Clamcleat Junior holds a line without a knot and without moving parts. Pull the rope down into the jaws and the teeth hold it; lift it out and it runs free. It's a staple in rudder control systems, anchor rigs and general deck rigging on kayaks, canoes and small sailing dinghies.
One-Handed, Which Is the Point
You set and release it with the hand that is already holding the line, which is what you want when the other hand is on a paddle. There is nothing to seize, so it still works after a winter in the garage and a season in salt.
