About the Name
We list it as the Outback Carbon, and it is worth being precise: the shaft is carbon, the blade is tri-axial fiberglass. Accent's own name for it is simply the Outback. Nobody should buy this expecting carbon blades.
High-Angle, Which Is a Choice Not a Grade
A high-angle blade is short and wide, and you paddle it with your hands high and the blade entering close to the hull, near vertical. It takes a big bite and it is the stroke for acceleration and speed in a shorter or faster boat. A low-angle blade — long and narrow, hands low, shaft nearer horizontal — is less work per stroke and better for three unhurried hours. The Outback is firmly the first kind. If most of your paddling is a relaxed cruise, it is the wrong paddle however good it is.
