Construction

Swift paddles represent the ultimate in simplicity, light weight and durability achieved through a combination of technologies developed over 36 years.

Swift paddle blades are constructed from multiple layers of aircraft glass and other specialized fibers. The complex laminate is vacuum bagged using high strength resins and heat to produce a blade that is stiff, strong and yet very lightweight. Combined with an ovaled graphite shaft and the Feather Lock Adjustable Ferrule System, the asymmetrical blade moves smoothly through the water with each powerful but efficient stroke.

Design

The Swift blade features a cambered design which gradually transitions to a dihedral with deeper insertion into the water. This configuration provides more power throughout your stroke without the edge instability that occurs with a fully cambered blade. The camber provides the bite, while the dihedral smooths the sweeps and sculling moves.  The longitudinal curvature of the blade actually increases towards the tip of the blade providing more power at the entry into the water and a smoother exit.

Some customers ask...
The Swift Paddles are beautiful, but just how tough are they?

The Swift Paddle is a highly refined construction that has been fine tuned over the last 15 years. The secret of its lightness is the fact that only what is essential is present in its construction and nothing else. This paddle is designed for touring and open water use, including surf. It will give many years of use with a modest amount of care. Normal intended use includes entering and exiting the kayak, pushing off the beach, in water re-entry, rescue operations and any other common paddling function. While the tip of the paddle is very tough, the side edges are thin. We do not recommend chopping wood or digging clams with this paddle.
